Burn the Ships! - An All in April Update
In 1517, Hernando Cortez and his sailors boarded three ships that were leaving Spain with the mission of conquering Mexico. When they finally arrived in the Mexican bay, small boats carried the sailors to shore to prepare for their inland march to the capital city of the Aztecs to defeat King Montezuma and his forces. Once the soldiers were all on shore, Cortez motioned to a few men who got into the small boats and rowed back out to the three anchored ships. The soldiers on shore watched with curiosity, but soon they watched with horror as the men lit torches and threw them on the decks of the ships. They realized they wouldn’t be going back to their homeland or their families. They had no choice but to follow Cortez into battle. They were either all in or not in at all.
A year ago at the end of March, Mark and I “burned our ships” with him leaving his job of 15 years. We knew that the Lord was calling us to be “all in” pursuing missions work with Live Global. The Lord was asking us to make this step of faith when it didn’t entirely make “logical” sense. Sometimes God calls us to step out by faith in obedience. We now can stand one year later and declare that we know Christ deeper and we have seen Him provide in ways that only He can do. We have learned to abide in the root and leave it to Him to produce the fruit. We have grown in our private intercession before the Lord and we know that He is laying a foundation that is deep so He can build high. HE HAS BEEN SO FAITHFUL!
To commemorate that step of faith from a year ago, we are doing another “All In April” campaign starting April 1st. As you may remember, we did the first All in April campaign last year when I left the bank. If you are considering giving a special gift, considering whether to support us monthly, or willing to pray for us all month, you are in the right place! We have three goals for the All in April campaign this year.
We would ask that you pray for us every day in April. We cannot do what we are doing without God. We know that. We appreciate the prayers and encouragement as we seek to serve Him.
Along with partnership development, we are leading ministry teams to Northern Africa, Romania, and Southeast Asia in 2025. When we are fully supported, the cost of those trips will be part of the support we raise. Those trips will cost us approximately $16,000 this year. Because we are not yet fully supported, we would be grateful if you would prayerfully consider supporting these strategic trips through a special donation during All in April. Any funds received above the $16,000 will go to our general support account.
Between now and the end of April, we are praying that 10 people will commit to supporting us at $100 a month. Please pray with us and if you are not supporting us monthly, please consider if God may be leading you to give in this way.
As we did last year, we will provide very short weekly updates during April on the progress toward our goals. We sincerely appreciate each and every one of you. You have each been a gift from God to us and the ministry to which God has called us.
